Which women will you be celebrating this International Women’s Day?

(Eight Minute Read)

The iconic International Women’s Day is on 8th March with the campaign theme for 2022 of #breakthebias so we thought there was no better time to introduce you to and celebrate the women of One Magazine who have helped shape and form the business into what it is today.

Esther

Worked at One Media for 13 years.

Describe your role within the business.
I am the office manager which encompasses accounts, payroll, HR and recruitment, health and safety, and generally facilitating the day to day running of the business.

What’s your biggest achievement in that time?
I’ve loved seeing One Magazine grow and change over the years and knowing that I’ve been part of that gives me a lot of job satisfaction. But getting the company through COVID in the last two years has probably been my biggest achievement. At the beginning, when we didn’t know how things would evolve and being one of only four members of staff left in the company meant we all had to muck in together to get things done, so to see the magazine come out the other side, growing and thriving, is just brilliant.

What’s the best thing about working on One Magazine?
I have a real sense of pride in One Magazine. I love the great team we have – with all of us having worked here for at least seven years, it means we all work well together and know what is required to do a great job; everyone is invested in seeing the magazine thrive. I started out doing the accounts but as the company has grown, I’ve had to adapt and take on different tasks and roles so I have learnt so much in my time here.

Amber

Worked at One Media for nearly 13 years.

Describe your role within the business.
I’m the social media and marketing executive at One Magazine; it’s an exciting role with lots of scope to develop as things change so quickly with social media.

What’s your biggest achievement in that time?
As the company has grown, my role has changed a few times. From selling and designing ads to managing production schedules and marketing, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed each position. My biggest achievement would be managing the production of a national title. It was a big learning curve and a lot of hard work, but I found great satisfaction in the end result. Growing our socials has also been a great challenge and one I am keen to continue!

What’s the best thing about working on One Magazine?
I love being right at the heart of the community and being up to date with what’s going on in our local towns and villages, connecting and supporting local businesses. We have a great team who all get along and support each other when we need it. It’s a One Media family really!

Mary

Worked at one Media for 12 years.

Describe your role within the business.
I’m the news and what’s on editor for the One Magazine in Newton Abbot, so I research and collate all the events that are happening across Exeter, Exmouth, Mid and East Devon, and Newton Abbot into our handy what’s on pages, as well as putting together our news pages. I also manage our blog, create editorial content, and write the ‘Big Ideas for Little Readers’ column which is great fun to put together!

What’s your biggest achievement in that time?
I’ve had several roles within the company; the first being as a salesperson for the Citypress (the original name of the Exeter One Mag!) and then as the editor for a national title we published. Each role meant I had to learn a whole new skill set so they were steep learning curves at the time but they are the things I’m most proud of now.

What’s the best thing about working on One Magazine?
We have a genuinely great team made up of skilled and talented people that all get along really well and who have a mutual appreciation and love of cake!

Bev

Worked at One Media for 7 years.

Describe your role within the business.
I am a sales manager and my role is to help our advertisers to put together the best advertising plan to best help them market their business. I also represent One Magazine at various networking meetings.

What’s your biggest achievement in that time?
I love working with my long-time advertisers and new businesses but I think the thing I am most proud of is the bond I have forged with all of my advertisers and the trust they put in me. I also have many, many years’ experience in sales and marketing and I think that comes over in everything I say and do.

What’s the best thing about working on One Magazine?
I love my job; I think we all do here at One Magazine and that comes from everyone always working together to make each other’s jobs the easiest they can be and helping in any way we can. We are a great team!

One of the great things all the members of the One Magazine team love is that we get to know our customers really well on a personal level; their strengths, areas they’d like to improve, ways that advertising has helped them or ways we can see it will benefit them – so we’re well placed to help them get the most from being in the One Magazine. And this International Women’s day, we’re proud to support some of our advertisers whose businesses are run/led by women too – are there any you’d like to shout out? Let us know in the comments!
