Since it first dropped through the letterboxes of Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton ten years ago, the One Magazine (then known as the ExePress) has grown into a multi-edition magazine, working with the local community to provide entertaining and useful information for its readers across Exeter and large parts of Devon.

“It’s strange to think that this time ten years ago I was hard at work by myself in my garden shed creating the first ever Exmouth edition” managing director Paul Veysey recalls. “Printed in black and white, I had no idea what people were going to think of it! I wanted to create an entertaining platform for people to advertise their businesses – something that made it easy for both readers and advertisers to get involved with.”

It’s been hard work, there’s no doubt about it. But now, ten years on, One Magazine is continuing to go from strength to strength, expanding from its initial coverage of just Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton, to the five extra editions you see today spanning from Tiverton and Cullompton all the way down to Newton Abbot, with Exeter and East Devon in between. But what’s the secret to its success?

“The content that we include inside each magazine every month really helps to keep our magazine on the coffee table. Our ‘What’s On’ listings, recipes and reviews, plus great ideas for how to enjoy our beautiful county, provide our readers with so much valuable information about what’s going on around them,” Paul explains. “The fact that we can deliver this kind of content to tens of thousands of homes every month means that our readers have an entertaining and relevant resource that they can rely on and enjoy. We also make sure we listen to our readers and provide content that they want to see, as well as rewarding them with prize giveaways and vouchers.”

Of course, the magazine is only as successful as the variety of brilliant businesses that advertise inside it. “We’re lucky to have a wealth of high quality, reliable businesses that offer a variety of services our readers can utilise. I firmly believe that the sheer number of businesses who advertise with us every month without fail speaks for itself in proving how successful the magazine is for generating work” Paul states.

Dennis Mitchell, owner of Better Carpet Care, has advertised in every edition of One Magazine since the very first issue all those years ago. We were keen to catch up with him and find out why. “What I really like about the One Magazine is that it is in a league of its own in many ways,” Dennis tells us. “The front cover image is always inviting and there seems to be something for everyone inside. A clever mix of entertaining content nicely balances out attractive advertisements so that it doesn’t present itself as just another free publication full of less than exciting adverts. Carry on with the format Paul, and congratulations on your 10th anniversary!”

While the One Magazine will always be the flagship of the One Media brand, our ability to offer targeted leaflet distribution, graphic design, and professional web design services keeps us moving forward into the future, and with the additional success of our craft magazine Be Creative with Workbox, One Media establishes itself as a successfully growing business.

Paul finishes by saying, “we’ve got an exceptional team here at One Media who strive to deliver exceptional results in everything that we do. That’s sure to be a recipe for success!”
