As a farming county we live amongst some of the best producers of fruit and veg in the country. Here’s where you can enjoy some of the freshest produce picked with your own hands for a fantastic family-activity out in the countryside.

Enjoy fabulous fruit picking on this working farm that boasts stunning views over the Teign Estuary. Here you can pick sweet and juicy blackberries, jewel-like redcurrants, French beans and more. There’s even opportunity to pick your own fragrant sweet peas plus sunflowers in a variety of colours – including velvety dark ruby.

Bring your own container (a colander is a great PYO hack). Free entry. Open from 10am – 6pm until end of October, check online for a weekly update on what’s available to pick.

While it’s not exactly pick your own, for something a bit different you can book a one day workshop at Grocycle Farm, near Totnes, to learn how to grow mushrooms of your own. This popular day out starts with a tour of the farm before getting hands on with the basics of mushroom cultivation theory and the tools to carry on at home.

All pick your own activities are subject to availability and dictated by seasonal variations. Please check before you travel.
